Hosta and EJB coding work
During the week (especially the early part) I spent a lot of time setting up jboss, JBuilder and my 2003 EJB project again, including rewriting some of the EJB code. It felt good to be coding again, and to be doing something on Hostaccino again. I had a thought yesterday, that perhaps some of my lack of motivation to work on Hosta is that I can actually see limited opportunity, or a great deal of time required for a return (low ROI), partially due to large numbers of competition. On the other hand, the one thing I can see as my competitive edge is personalised service and support. That means if I focus on the service/support aspect, I have fewer clients, hopefully better paying clients, etc.
I don’t know. Anyway, working on my EJB, its pretty much a massive overkill for the result (ie. E-Comm website with some extra interfacing functionality), but it is more than that. It’s a chance to prove to myself that I can finish things, and finish them properly, in addition to being a successful J2EE project, which I can hopefully use as a demonstration project for potential software development consulting.

To "prove to myself that I can finish things, and finish them properly" - a pretty good lesson to learn!
